The Langdale Manor

Our Story

A Manor Built for the Lakes.

Two hundred years on the edge of this lake. Sensitively restored. Opened as a hotel in 2008.

Our Story

Two Hundred Years of Stories

The Langdale Manor has stood at the edge of this lake for over two hundred years — originally a private estate, sensitively restored and opened as a hotel in 2008. We've added every modern luxury while preserving the soul of the building: the flagstone floors, the inglenook fireplaces, the views that stopped people in their tracks two centuries ago and still do today.

Our Philosophy

Hotels Should Feel Personal

We know our guests by name, remember their preferences and work hard to ensure every stay feels different to the last. Our team has been carefully chosen for their passion for hospitality and their love of this extraordinary corner of England.

The Landscape

England, At Its Most English

Scafell Pike within driving distance. Windermere a short walk. Some of England's finest walking on the doorstep. Our concierge team can arrange guided fell walks, water sports on the lake, cycling, climbing — or simply a hamper and a quiet spot.

The Team

The People Behind the Manor

Eleanor Whitcombe

General Manager

Twenty years across British country house hotels. Believes the small things are the big things.

James Calloway

Head Chef

Trained in the Roux kitchens. Fiercely loyal to the Cumbrian smallholders who supply our pantry.

Sara Nakamura

Spa Director

A specialist in thermal and water-based therapies. Walks the fells every morning before service.

Thomas Ainsworth

Wedding Coordinator

Has planned over three hundred weddings here. Calm, precise, quietly funny.

Dog Friendly

We've Never Turned Away a Well-Behaved Dog.
Or Their Owners.

Dogs are welcome throughout the ground floor and in our Fell View rooms. There's a dog menu in the bar, a dog-sitting service on request, and a hundred miles of footpaths from the front door.
